Trip Ideas to explore the hinterland

Due to its location just minutes from the beaches of the Riviera di Ponente and from the countryside of Liguria, the Family Resort for Vacation Villa Giada is a great starting point for daily trips to places and hidden villages of Liguria.

Here are some tips and ideas for holidays to discover the hinterland:

Apricale (40 min by car): the ancient fortified village is situated inland between Bordighera and Ventimiglia, 15 km from the coastline. It is perched on a hillside surrounded by olive trees and is suggestive for the series of steep streets, covered walkways, stone arches, balconies and palaces decorated, all dominated by the massive buttresses of the castle, now a cultural center and meeting place for artists.

Bussana Vecchia (40 min by car): built a few kilometers from the sea in the vicinity of San Remo and destroyed by the earthquake of 1887, today has been restored and occupied by foreign artists, who open studios, craft shops and local exposure of their works.

Cervo (10 min by car): typical Ligurian village on the coast between Alassio and Imperia, is distinctive for its medieval houses arranged in rows, its arcades and its "carruggi". Dominated by the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, built on the architect Gio Batta Marvaldi, with income from fisheries and trade in coral, becomes a magnificent setting for summer concerts of the International Festival of Chamber Music, which plays the beautiful courtyard.

Triora (1 hour by car): is an elite member of I Borghi Piu' Belli d' Italia, a list of the top 100 most beautiful medieval citadels in Italy. Triora's Twenty-First Century beauty shadows a gruesome Middle Ages renown, for Triora was the site of the last witch trials held in Italy, during the Renaissance. As such it has been selected as the location of a series of folklore- and horror-themed events and festivals in the last years.

Valloria (40 min by car): situated 15 km from Imperia, Valloria is a small ancient village (town of sampling). It 'a particular place and to discover: the labyrinth of his "carruggi" you can discover 103 doors painted, true works of art.
